but, I kind of think that people should be free to interpret literature on their own.
if the teacher thinks a tree represents the soul of the heroine, but I think the tree represents eternal beauty, both of us should be right. also, if i think the tree means nothing and it’s bullshit analysis, that should also be right.
only the author knows what they meant, so I don’t like when teachers are like “listen to what I think it means because that’s right and your opinion doesn’t matter.” It’s ridiculous. Stories and poems and even movies to are meant to be interpreted in any way by the viewer, or at least that’s what I believe.
